Years ago, when I was about 21 and gavin was 18, I used to go to him for lessons. He was just living at home then with his folks. He lived about 30 mins from me. He is an awesome player. Even then he had all the gadd and harvey mason licks down, and told me something I'll never forget. He said " if gadd was here now he'd tell you to get your act together!". Lol, it was so true. Probably is now to some extent. Anyway, he's done very well for himself, and his list of credits is huge. He's toured and recorded with iggy pop, lisa stansfield, incognito, go west, sam brown, just loads of people.
There's some interesting moduation grooves he's developed, check out the audio clips from his books. He used to teach me some of this modulation stuff too, it's really cool, though I haven't developed it much further like he has. I didn't know he had a website, but I just googled and found it. I must get in touch with him sometime, maybe get some more lessons

Yeah I have both books "Illustions"/Perspective" and the DVD "Rhythmic Visions" in which he performs different examples from the books. He seems like a great chap, very serious and forward about the concepts he discusses.
The book is probably one of the most informative sources i've seen in trying to explain/grasp all the advanced rhythmic elements/polyrhythms/modulations from the great guys like Vinnie and Bruford. I'm sorry if I don't really have anything to add, but everything it's pretty much said on the Review from his site.
Like the reviewer states this is MORE than just playing "cool beats" and how many triplets I can split into 8th notes divided by the square root of 19, minus any groove, I don't really care about mathematical formulas, leave that stuff to scientists, you should strive to use the concepts in a "musical" way, to serve the music which is the ultimate purpose of any technique for that matter IMO. I believe that information coming from a guy like Gavin is quite helpful, especially when you concider the age we live in and how technologically this particular generation has been influenced by. It's his sincere efforts of sharing his talent and skills with the community through these educational systems that OWNS me. When in terms of breaking it down Gavin has it all going for him and it's willing to share the concepts without that pretentious "LOOK AT ME I'M A NAME DRUMMER, THESE ARE MY CREDENTIALS, HERE"S WHAT YOU DO, 1-2-3-4 *stares at clock, GEEZ when am I getting out of here" *I wonder who i'm reffering to, HEH just playing ofcourse. Porcupine Tree is a cool band if you'd like to check out Gavin's playing with a band.

He is a great player...cool insights into the Vinnie/Weckl/Virg/Chambers/Gratton/DiCenso/GBiss etc modulation ideas.
